Transmision from a supreme crasher of threesomes!

May. 4th, 2008 | 09:04 pm

Oh boya, shit is good. May4th, 3 days past a 4 year anniversary with a lover afar, who I'll see soon soon soon. place is awesome, the balcony is home to me, the living room is full of light, and candles a shrine to a toy zebra cow flashlight. Bikes are EVERYWHERE in here - on the walls, in pieces on the floor, they bring me joy. Michael Franti on the stereo, couches abound, airflow encourages the impending summer and love is always in the air.

The rumors...

They're all true! I'm out of five star affair. And yeah, it's a mutual parting of ways... I'm staying in Calgary, they're moving to Vancouver. And for anyone I hadn't told in the last 2 weeks, I'm going to be staying in town for some years to come!

Three shows, a million dress rehearsals, 2 radio broadcasts for the CBC, in two days. I worked 18 hours today, and I loved every minute of it. And I still love my job.

A few notes about bicycles.

Mar. 27th, 2008 | 05:06 pm

And now shes' staying elsewhere. Best I think.

1. When cycling, one thing I hate more than drivers that try to kill you (I can evade them) are drivers who stop, where there is no stop sign and expect you to go, when there's a line of cars coming the other way doing 80km an hour, and who look confused when you point out that you have a stop sign and they don't. Traffic works well when folks go with the traffic plan, fails otherwise.

2. I left my bike outside unlocked this morning before an 8 hour workday (after making it downtown in 12 minutes flat) accidentally, on the corner of 7th ave and 1st SW. Think about that location. After work, guess what was still there? My MOTHERFUCKING BIKE! Unfuckingbelievable...

Also, you know that feeling when you're asleep with someone in their bed, and it's early in the morning, and there comes a knock at the window because it leads onto the front porch. Before you can look out the window, she's shoved your head violently under a pillow, and is holding you down, and then lets you go and says "oh shit, it's ________(insert her boyfriends name)". And then whilst you're hiding in her roomates closet she comes to find you and lets you know that he's secretly polyamorous anyway and doesn't mind at all? And so you all hang out all day swimming in the river? You know that feeling?

It's not how uncomfortable she makes me, it's how uncomfortable the other people around her are, and how that affects me. Her and I get along fine.

Jamie. Roommate, co-worker, fellow alcoholic, and full time cyclist. Just him and I at the bar, one turned into 6, and we were booking it for the last train, swerving past cop cars on our bikes, preferring to be drunk cyclists than designated drivers.

Fleeting goodnight kisses, even when you're left to bike home on your own, are SO worth it.

Missed a major point...

Jan. 20th, 2008 | 08:03 pm

EVERY technician (including me) who works at the theatre where I work cycles to work. All year. The maintenance guy takes the bus when he's not cycling. The technical director walks the half hour to work everyday, sometimes takes the bus. The production manager rides the bus everyday. I LOVE my co-workers!

The high point came when I realized that one of the touring technicians on the last show rode his bike to our theatre everyday... this amazing dude was once head of audio at the Jubilee Auditorium, and has toured all over the world as an audio tech and stage carp.

Trying to cool down.

Jan. 14th, 2008 | 01:35 am

I just became myself again.

There's an absolutely direct relationship between how much I cycle and how happy I am in general.

I've settled into a few really good things recently, all of which are making me overjoyed with life, and happy in the winter. I take my bike down from her hook on the roof in the morning, and put her by the door. Her name is Simon. Everything is ready, and if i don't need it, it goes in my single pannier, which rides on the left of my back rack.
Pants
Hat
Headlamp
Scarf
Hoodie
Jacket
Pant Clip
Gloves.
It's downhill almost all of the 22 minutes to work, and it flies by. My route is almost a direct line to work, and it's almost all free of traffic during rush hour. I throw her over the bike rack just outside our door, lock up and bring my pannier inside. I love my co-workers, Todd on audio, Matt on lighting (soon to be Jamie) and Pieter in the office. I touch base with the other two to see for how long and how many of the casual crew they'll need for the day. Based on this and various delivery/production schedules, I organize the casual crew for the day (which ranges from 1 to 7 people), always hoping that Pieter has called enough casual people in (and he usually has). I'm head of the rigging and stage carpentry department.

Myself, for big shows, I'm usually running motor controls for a lot of the day, they bring our trusses in and out. I'm working with the casuals, getting curtains hung, dealing with the loading dock, arranging the seating units, working 40 feet up on the grid, pushing genie lifts around, hanging set pieces, rigging anything that needs to be hung, working off of a stage plan, keeping emergency exits clear (we seat 400), bringing in truss for lighting, list goes on. Diverse enough for me.

After a 4-14 hour day, I usually just get my bike onto the train. The 12 minute ride is well worth avoiding the long hill up, especially after a 14 hour day. The ride home is 8 blocks from the station. I hang Simon up, and chill.

Tonight was special. After having had the day off, I found myself playing a new game, Settlers of Catan. It's brilliant, and I'm addicted. Chilling with wonderful roommates, Kyla and Jeff. After a few games, I hopped back on my bike and started the 4 minute ride to punkzilvania to meet Nicole. My scarf tails flew behind me it the wind as I sailed the road. The liquor store provided me with some wonderful locally micro brewed beer, which I shared around when I pulled up to punkz. Punkz was buzzing with activity as usual, with 12 people staying there and a few visitors, as always. After a really nice chat with Nicole and Billy, I ended up back upstairs playing settlers of catan with a different crowd, and enjoyed it immensely. Two intense games ensued, both of which I won.

After a brief ride home, I found myself in my own space, free of alarm, free of questions and full of love. Peter Sarstedt is playing, life is good.

Absolutely.

Way more than I could ever handle. 5 days and counting.
Emotional wreckage of epic proportions is not within the range of situations that I can deal with.

Nor is intentional passive aggressive vindictiveness for 24 hours a day.

Letter of resignation

Dec. 1st, 2007 | 03:05 pm

When writing your lover a letter of resignation, it's important to keep your resignation letter as simple, brief, and focused as possible. It should also be positive.

Once you have made the decision to move on, there's no point in criticizing your lover or your relationship. Your letter of resignation should include information on when you are leaving. You can also let the person know you appreciate your time with them. When you're not sure what to write, review resignation letter samples to get some ideas.

Your resignation letter should include:

* The fact that you are leaving and date when your resignation is effective.
* Thanks to your partner for the opportunities you have had during your time together.

Regardless of why you are resigning or how you feel about it, if you mention why you are leaving, make sure that you do not include anything negative or disparaging about the sex, your partner, mutual friends/acquaintances, or your time together.

This letter will be included in your collective memory file and could be shared with potential future partners, therefore, it should be professional and polite.

Saturday Dec 1st, 2007.

First Paragraph:
The first paragraph of your letter should state that you are resigning and give the date when your resignation is effective.

Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am leaving my position as someone who is romantically invested in you at this time. This resignation is not effectively immediately, but instead will occur steadily, running the course of the next 17 days.

Middle Paragraph:
The next section of your resignation letter (optional) should thank your partner for the opportunities you have had during your relationship with the person.

I want to thank you wholeheartedly for the opportunities you have provided me to learn and grow during this time. Through the turbulence and through the prime times, I have never regretted a moment I have spent in this position. Whilst I would like to think that I would be available to fill this position in the future, I don't anticipate that the atmosphere will ever again provide the amazing opportunities it did this time around. That said, I will never close any doors.

Final Paragraph:
Conclude your resignation letter (optional) by offering to assist with the transition.

During this time of transition, if I can assist you in any way in coping with any sort of emotional fallout, or any other discomfort this resignation may cause, please do not hesitate to let me know. I know this may be a difficult move for both of us.

Respectfully yours,
Dustin DeBris
